Carola Bührmann

Carola Bührmann is a photographer from Hamburg. She has been a lecturer of biology and anatomy at the MTA school in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony, for over 20 years. The focus of her photography is portraits or people in general. However, the versatile artist also likes to look beyond photographic boundaries and so you can also find shots of lost places, classical architecture, objects, and much more in her portfolio.

Even the first glance at her pictures makes it clear that Carola is not a classic portrait photographer. Her shots are bursting with ingenuity and creativity. Humor is not neglected either. In addition, she also shows impressively sensual and emotional images.

Carola writes about herself:

"My interest in photography over the years more and more strengthened and I have realized as an autodidact how much meeting with people in front of my camera means to me, how happy these encounters make me. Making visible what is in my counterpart ... joy, dreams, fears ... , but also being creative with the people in front of my camera makes up a large part of my photographic passion. In doing so, I can lose myself in time and space, immerse myself in people and use the available light experimentally. I love to develop my pictures in black and white, usually with hard contrasts and most relentless.  Already on the camera display, all colors are turned off, because they confuse me and make me uneasy when evaluating a light situation. Still, lately I find myself developing in color now and then."
