The Cologne-based people and portrait photographer Ralf Trogemann, born in 1970, returned to his early passion, photography, after studying medicine and completing his residency as an anesthesiologist. Even as a child, he held his first camera and was inspired by his father, who accompanied him through the countryside with his little Agfa.

Over time, Ralf expanded his equipment with an internship and eventually a Minolta SLR. However, photography took a temporary backseat until digital technology brought it back to life. At first he used a Sony camera, but about two years ago he switched to a Fujifilm medium format camera. With Fujifilm, he has found a way to bring the analog feeling back into his creative work.

Sitting in front of a computer for hours editing images is far from Ralf's mind. He wants to show people as they are - filters belong in front of the lens, not in post-production.

He deepened his understanding of studio photography with flash with Christian Kuhlmann. But more importantly, he taught himself to "see the light" by carefully analyzing glossy advertising photos in magazines - where does the light cast shadows, where is it reflected, where must the light source have been? This skill also helped him later in his career to work better with natural daylight.

He was inspired by three photographers in particular: Andreas Jorns, Roman Dejon and Peter Lindbergh. He believes that his photographic journey will continue in their direction. However, he believes it is important to constantly evolve and explore new avenues. For him, standing still is stagnation. Therefore, he strives to develop and learn in as many areas as possible.

Ralf is still searching for his own photographic signature, which he is gradually rediscovering and developing in his images. There is still so much he wants to try out. Street photography and ballet are at the top of his to-do list and will be among his future projects.

10Photos says: Ralf is a very personable and passionate portrait photographer. You can see that in his images. Emotional photos instead of images edited to death by software. Sensuality instead of showmanship through awkward nudity. Creativity and authenticity instead of shallow mainstream fare. We are curious to see where Ralf's photographic journey will lead, but we know for sure that it will be a fantastic journey with wonderful destinations and results.
