Thomas Wester is a creative and versatile nature and fine art photographer from Ennepetal, Germany. His photographic journey began in 2008 with a desire to take better pictures while windsurfing. This quickly developed into a deep passion for nature photography, which he has pursued with dedication ever since. His interest in ornithology led him to bird photography in 2009. He has been a professional photographer since 2015 and is intensively involved in the composition of nature photographs. In autumn and winter he focuses more on landscape photography, while in spring and summer he concentrates on wildlife.

His work is characterised by clear lines, well thought-out compositions and creative perspectives. The dynamism of his images is impressive, as is the authenticity he always maintains. He favours reduced, naturalistic post-processing in line with the guidelines of international competitions. Thomas takes his time with his subjects, eschewing quick shots in favour of a deliberate approach to capturing the subject. This slowed-down approach results in images that are not only visually striking, but also capture the intensity of the moment.
Thomas' portfolio is extremely varied. He moves confidently between macro, dynamic wildlife and spectacular landscapes. Sometimes he shows interesting details, sometimes epic motifs in their impressive entirety. As well as classic compositions full of atmospheric light, his work also includes abstract, artistic and experimental approaches. His perspectives are equally varied: Sometimes he photographs the landscape from exciting perspectives on the ground, sometimes from the air with drones. Black and white photographs are also part of his repertoire, with their subtle interplay of light, shadow and exciting textures.
Thomas' artistic quality is reflected in numerous international awards. He has been honoured at prestigious competitions such as 'Asferico', 'Montphoto' and 'Biophotocontest' as well as the 'International Highlights of Nature Photography'. His work reflects a deep understanding of nature and an artistic sensibility.
In addition to his photographic work, Thomas shares his knowledge through workshops and training courses. As an experienced instructor, he offers courses for those who want to improve their skills in nature photography without the hassle. His aim is to enable participants to make rapid progress through focused instruction and practical tips. He draws on almost two decades of experience in training and consultancy, as well as his friendly and calm demeanour. In collaboration with Brockmann Phototravel, he runs workshops in Portugal and Iceland, where participants can photograph the stunning natural surroundings under professional guidance.
