Stefan Mayr
Stefan Mayr is a photographer and photo artist from Augsburg, Germany, who uses his camera to tell stories as well as capture images. His passion for photography began early, taking his first pictures with his father's Zeiss Ikon at the age of eleven. Despite studying social pedagogy in Munich, he was eventually drawn to photography full-time and has been working as a freelance artist since 2007. With the founding of the Lighthouse Photo School in 2011 and later the Lighthouse Academy, he also established himself as a dedicated mentor and trainer for ambitious photographers.

His style is characterised by a strong emotional component. Stefan is not interested in pure representation, but in the visualisation of moods and nuances. His images are characterised by a reduction to the essential without losing depth. He sees photography as a process of discovery, allowing him to bring hidden things to light. Stefan Mayr is particularly inspired by his travels in the north, but his immediate surroundings also offer an infinite number of motifs. He transforms small details and seemingly insignificant moments along the way into striking photographs.
Stefan's landscape photographs are characterised by strong lighting moods, a finely tuned colour palette and thoughtful composition. His images often have a certain melancholy or serenity to them, while at the same time being imbued with an impressive dynamism. Movement plays an essential role, whether through dramatic cloud formations, flowing water or striking foreground elements that draw the eye into the picture. Nature appears in his paintings not as a mere backdrop, but as a narrative in its own right.
His street photography also takes a pared-down but powerful approach. Clear lines, strong contrasts and a sense of light and shadow characterise his urban imagery. Motion blur gives many of his shots an almost surreal effect, while architectural elements are skilfully integrated into the composition. In particular, his black and white photographs have a graphic clarity that emphasises the essentials and brings the structures of urban space to the fore.
Despite the differences between landscape and street photography, a common signature can be discerned: the images often thrive on strong contrasts, precise compositions and an intense engagement with light and space. While the nature images are characterised by their vastness and tranquillity, the urban images capture the dynamism and chaos of the city in an almost painterly way. In both genres, Stefan succeeds in creating a tangible atmosphere and emotionally engaging the viewer. His other specialisms include architecture, portraiture and reportage photography, all of which share a similar style.
Stefan's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications. From his studio in the historic Lembert hat factory, he not only creates art, but also teaches it in workshops and courses. The Lighthouse Fotoschule Augsburg offers a wide range of opportunities to develop your own visual language, from photo walks to extended photo trips. Stefan goes one step further with the Lighthouse Academy, where he guides photographers who want to explore artistic and creative photography more intensively over the course of 18 months.

10Photos says: Stefan Mayr's photography is characterised by an intense atmosphere and an extraordinary reduction to the essential. He not only shows the subject, but also visualises moods and hidden details that are often overlooked. Whether in the tranquillity of a landscape or the hustle and bustle of a city, his images convey emotions and tell stories that go beyond mere depiction. The fine coordination of light, contrast and movement gives his work a special expressiveness. It is this unique combination of technical precision and emotional depth that makes him such a distinctive photographer - and continues to amaze us.
