Stefan Liebermann, from Sömmerda in Thuringia, Germany, is an international award-winning landscape and astrophotographer whose work is recognised worldwide. As a physicist specialising in optics, he combines scientific expertise with artistic creativity in a unique way. In addition to his work as a photographer, he also works as a photo coach, gives workshops and organises photography trips. The latter have taken him to extraordinary places such as the Namib Desert, the salt flats of Bolivia and under the Northern Lights in Scandinavia. Stefan's work has been published in renowned media such as National Geographic, BBC and NASA, and his book 'Sternbilder der Welt' is an impressive contribution to astrophotography.
His path to photography began in 2015, when he was working as a laser physicist in a laboratory and decided to give his life a new direction. Photography offers him the opportunity to combine his rationality with his emotionality, while living out his passion for nature. Stefan's love of science and deep understanding of optical systems are reflected in the precision and brilliance of his photographs. He is particularly fond of night photography: using modern, light-sensitive camera sensors and digital image processing, he opens up a world invisible to the naked eye and shows us the beauty of our night sky in all its facets.
