The balanced interplay of technical clarity and fine aesthetic sensibility is what makes Rolf's work so special. Rather than simply depicting lines, surfaces, colours and shapes, he stages, composes and often graphically abstracts them. Despite their formal rigour, his pictures are by no means cold; they convey calm, balance, and a quiet, almost poetic power. In his work, architecture becomes a language expressed through light, shadow and geometry.

A central element of his visual language is perspective, which often deliberately departs from the familiar. This means that familiar buildings appear in a new light, details become more important, and the seemingly incidental comes into focus. Rolf is interested in interpretation, not documentation. When a cloud balances the weight of an image or a surface is redefined by colour, this is no coincidence, but rather part of a creative process. As part of this process, Rolf also uses digital post-processing as a creative tool.

In his more recent works, Rolf has expanded his repertoire to include elements of minimalist street photography. Even here, he remains true to his style: people do not appear as narrative figures, but as creative elements within a compositional structure of architecture. Everything seems well thought out, yet never rigid. His works thrive on the tension between rigour and surprise, and between the static and the momentary.

In addition to minimalism, color plays a central role in Rolf's work. However, it is not used for decoration, but rather to deliberately enhance effect and atmosphere. Every color has its place, and everything is precisely composed, whether it's bold red, cool blue, or bright yellow. However, color can give way when black and white make a stronger statement. The effect, not the principle, is always the decisive factor.
