Philipp Lutz

to the home page

Born in the rural north of Augsburg and now living in Munich, Philipp Lutz has found his creative expression in landscape and architectural photography. His journey into the world of images began at a young age with an analogue 35mm camera, but the experimental hurdles of film photography failed to sustain his enthusiasm. It was not until the advent of digital cameras in his teens that he discovered the joy of experimenting and capturing the world around him. Philipp's passion deepened, particularly while studying electrical engineering in Northern Ireland.

Landscape photography is not only a hobby for Philipp, but also a way to escape the office routine and explore new places. It's not just about capturing the moment, but the experience behind it. With minimalist equipment, a lack of comfort and a penchant for sleeping in tents or cars, he is often right on the scene, capturing spontaneous night or dawn shots.

His travels take him on long walks through nature, where the journey is as important as the destination. The heavy rucksack, changing weather conditions and unexpected challenges are all part of the experience for him and make each photographic tour an adventure. This dedication is reflected in his images, which are characterised by naturalness, clear rendering and an almost documentary style that allows the viewer to immerse themselves in the quiet and often magical moments of nature.

While his landscape photography depicts the natural world, Philipp takes a very different approach in his architectural photography. Here he experiments with geometric shapes, surfaces and man-made structures. These - as he likes to call them - 'artificial landscapes' leave room for interpretation and imagination, and impress with their technical and often minimalist compositions. In contrast to his landscape photographs, Philipp makes greater use of post-processing to emphasise lines and contrasts.

Post-processing plays an important role for Philipp and he prefers a natural style, especially for landscape shots. He only uses open source software such as darktable, gimp and enfuse, sometimes even tweaking the code to achieve optimal results. This technical approach underlines his attention to detail and his desire to create authentic yet perfectly composed images.

10Photos says: "Philipp Lutz's photography combines the raw beauty of nature with the precision and abstraction of architecture. His portfolio fascinates with the contrast between naturalness and geometry, between documentary style and artistic interpretation, between atmospheric and creative works of art. This diversity, coupled with a passion for adventure and minimalist comfort, is what makes his photography so extraordinary and unique. From grandiose landscapes to abstract architectural scenes, Philipp shows us the world from new and surprising perspectives. We think: absolutely fantastic!
