to the home page

Matthias Haltenhof is a passionate landscape and architecture photographer from Halle (Saale), Germany. He developed a keen interest in nature at an early age, which eventually led him to photography in 2005. He is particularly fascinated by the possibility of capturing moods and immersing landscapes in an almost painterly atmosphere through light, composition and long exposures. He is also fascinated by the diversity of architecture, as it offers the opportunity to document the interplay of structure and space in equally impressive ways. His images are characterised by exceptional clarity, well-considered perspectives and a skilful balance between natural and graphic elements.

His career has been characterised by a constant engagement with art and technology. Matthias studied Media Informatics - an education that not only gave him a deep understanding of digital image processing, but also shaped his analytical approach to photography. While still a student, he deepened his knowledge of composition, lighting and the technical aspects of image design. His self-taught approach and relentless desire to experiment led to the development of his own style, which combines documentary precision with artistic interpretation.

This characteristic expression runs throughout his photographic oeuvre and reflects his intense exploration of light and space. In his landscape photographs, Matthias often uses long exposures to transform water surfaces into mirror-like planes, while drifting clouds merge into soft structures. His architectural photographs are characterised by precise lines, interpreting forms and structures in an almost abstract way. He plays with light and shadow to add depth and dynamism to his subjects.

His photographs have received numerous accolades. Most notably, Matthias won first place at the Prix de la Photographie in the Architecture category, highlighting his keen eye for striking visual compositions. He has also won several awards at prestigious international competitions such as the IPA (International Photography Awards), further cementing his reputation as an outstanding representative of his genre.

Matthias's images have also received a great deal of attention in exhibitions and publications outside of competitions. In addition, his images have been exhibited in various galleries - including in Berlin and Leipzig - where he was able to present his characteristic landscape and architectural photographs to a wide audience.
