Martin Elsen
Born in Stade, Germany in 1969, aerial photographer Martin Elsen can look back on a long career characterised by passion and constant development. Even as a child he was fascinated by the diverse world of images, inspired by his mother's passion for photography. He received his first SLR camera at the age of eight, laying the foundations for a significant artistic career.

Martin started out as a craftsman, photographing weddings and private events on the side. These assignments taught him the importance of capturing special moments for eternity. Over time, however, he sought other challenges and developed his photographic eye. As a family man, and with the start of his own business, Martin used the 'freedom' he had gained for long walks in the countryside with a pushchair and camera to rediscover and capture his home. This resulted in photographs, some of which are still in use today.
The turning point in his professional career came in 2007 when he photographed from an aeroplane for the first time on a corporate assignment. This experience ignited his passion for aerial photography, a discipline that perfectly combines technical skill and artistic vision. Since then, Martin has flown thousands of hours in motorised gliders and fast propeller planes, taking an unimaginable number of photographs.
Whether in the soft light of morning or the long shadows of evening, he creates spectacular 'hidden object pictures for adults', as he calls his work with a wink, in the changing moods of twilight. Even during the day, his artistic eye allows him to create images of abstract beauty. Each image invites you to discover new details. Extreme conditions are no obstacle, as Martin is prepared to endure a lot for the perfect moment. Aerial photography can be a challenge, especially in freezing conditions. Flying over the frozen Wadden Sea in the North Sea at 160km/h and minus 15 degrees, he had to hold the camera outside the cockpit window - an experience that pushed him to his limits.
His work encompasses much more than stunning landscape photography. In addition to unspoilt nature, he also captures urban areas and industrial structures in exciting reportages - always with an eye for the extraordinary. The North German landscape, with its moorland, heathland and geest, historic buildings and modern infrastructure, appears in his images as a harmonious interplay of tradition and progress. Martin's photographs show wide river landscapes, rolling hills, striking buildings, ships, trains and tiny people - all in a striking structure of intense but natural colours and shapes. Heights of up to 500 metres provide views that are far superior to conventional drone photography and give his images a unique touch.
Martin's many publications show the diversity of his work. By 2025, he will have published seventeen illustrated books in which he shows the German North Sea and Baltic coasts, urban landscapes and historic regions from his unique perspective. Titles such as 'Faszination Ostseeküste', 'Faszination Hamburg' and 'Der Landkreis Stade' exemplify his view of landscape and architecture. Travel guides, calendars and countless newspaper publications are also part of his repertoire and underline his quality as an exceptional photographer. In addition, almost 200,000 people follow him on his social media channels.
