Kurt Hossfeld from Kempen, Germany, is a passionate nature and wildlife photographer. While he works professionally as a product photographer, taking high-precision images for business clients, he finds his creative balance in nature. Kurt originally travelled the world as a long-haul pilot for over 30 years. During his travels he developed a growing fascination with landscapes and wildlife, which eventually became his great photographic passion. In particular, the National Parks of the USA have always fascinated and inspired him. He has also travelled to almost every continent, capturing nature in a wide variety of images.

His photographic style is multifaceted and well thought out. Kurt works with wide landscapes as well as detailed close-ups, playing with perspective and lighting. Rather than limit himself to pure documentation, he often favours a harmonious portrayal of animals in their environment. In some images they are simply part of a larger whole, set against imposing natural backdrops, while in others he captures striking portraits with intense gazes and finely crafted structures.

This variety creates an exciting visual language that varies between subtle restraint and striking presence. In terms of colour, he tends to use subtle natural tones, which lend authenticity to the scenes. His subjects range from native birds and small mammals to amphibians, the big cats of Africa and the mighty brown bears of Alaska and Finland.

Today Kurt is a qualified photographer and an active conservationist. He is a full member of the Society for Nature Photography (GDT) and is committed to the preservation of natural habitats. He is also part of the team at Phototravellers, an online travel, adventure and photography magazine that brings nature and landscapes closer to its readers through fantastic images and exciting writing.
