Kerstin Bittner
Kerstin Bittner is a freelance photographer based in Hamburg, Germany, specialising in urban and natural landscapes and their combination. As a qualified aquatic biologist, she has a particular affinity for subjects related to water - be it in the form of lakes, rivers or coastal landscapes. Her passion for photography developed during her PhD at Lake Constance: in the early hours of the morning, when the light glides atmospherically over the water, photographing the shore became an artistic balance to her scientific work.

But landscapes are not the only feature of her portfolio. Family portraits, reportages and image photography for companies and clubs are also part of Kerstin's repertoire. On 10Fotos, she presents herself primarily as a landscape and urban photographer. It is in this creative field that her enthusiasm for playing with light, colour and form comes to the fore.
Her images show both her adopted home of Hamburg and the nearby North Sea and Baltic coasts - hidden corners as well as well-known landmarks such as the Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall and the Westerhever Lighthouse. Kerstin also takes us on a journey through Europe: from Albania to Provence and from Venice to Iceland, she captures the beauty of the landscapes and cities.
For Kerstin, it is particularly important to capture the quiet moments amidst the hustle and bustle of city life. She takes advantage of the special lighting at sunrise and sunset, during the blue hour or on a foggy morning. Her carefully planned shots require an early start at selected locations to capture the perfect light. But it is the solitude of these moments that particularly fascinates Kerstin. In the silence of nature or the stillness of the city, she finds not only relaxation, but also inspiration - moments of tranquillity that shape her creative eye and allow her to create atmospheric images.
Characteristic of Kerstin's work is a clear composition and a subtle use of colour, usually in muted pastel shades that create an elegant, timeless charm. Often overlooked details of a landscape or striking structures of urban architecture can be harmoniously integrated into the overall composition. Using long exposures, she combines dynamism with static objects, creating a fascinating contrast between movement and stillness. There is no hustle and bustle, thanks to the thoughtful composition. Instead, everything appears calm and balanced, creating a harmonious coexistence out of contrast.
Kerstin's work is used in a variety of ways: it is distributed through stock agencies, published as art prints, calendars, postcards and in travel guides. She has also produced numerous reportages in her home region and beyond, documenting a behind-the-scenes look at urban and natural environments.
