Jan Lenhardt
Jan Lenhardt is a nature photographer from Heppenheim in southern Hesse, between Frankfurt am Main and Heidelberg. He finds his subjects mainly in the Odenwald and along the Bergstrasse. The mystical atmosphere of the forest, especially when the beech trees are covered in thick fog, has fascinated him since childhood and continues to influence his photography today. A friend introduced him to photography - initially with a smartphone - and in 2017 he switched to digital photography with a high-quality interchangeable lens camera. For him, it is a blessing to be able to find peace in the silence of the forest and then express himself through creative but natural processing that preserves the character of the subject.

He usually makes his trips on the spur of the moment, when time allows, looking for moments when the forest is bathed in a mysterious mist. Jan's pictures capture these fleeting moments when diffuse light, damp trees and mossy paths create an almost magical overall picture.
Where others prefer to stay at home in uncomfortable weather such as rain and snow, he goes out and enjoys the solitude, the silence. Jan absorbs this special atmosphere and translates it into paintings. Nature appears almost poetic in his works, as if time has stood still, inviting the viewer to immerse himself in the deep, meditative silence of the forest.
Although he occasionally photographs other landscapes, such as the old town of Heppenheim, vineyards or the Rhine valley, his special preference remains the mystical forest backdrop with its muted colours and atmospheric foggy mood. In addition to his home region, the lonely mountain forests of Upper Bavaria and their landscapes are destinations that he enjoys visiting and photographing creatively.
Technically, Jan often works in manual mode, preferring to use short exposure times to capture even the most subtle changes in the natural brightness of the forest. His creative approach combines precise framing with spontaneous improvisation, experimenting with different perspectives and using daylight in all its manifestations - backlight, sidelight and background light - to capture the dynamic character of the forest. He uses both classic photographic techniques and modern approaches to image manipulation to capture the subtle nuances of mist, light and shadow.
