Using a modern system camera and analogue lenses from the 1950s to the 1970s, he transforms fleeting natural scenes into painterly works through the use of blurring, long exposures and multiple exposures - an approach he describes as 'painting with the camera'. His works open up to the viewer a world in which the dynamics of nature come to life in skilfully composed images. As well as capturing the obvious, Gunnar is able to convey an emotional depth that emphasises the uniqueness of each moment.
There are many facets to his abstract-minimalist style, from the subtle design details to the atmospheric interplay of cloud formations and the delicate shades of fog. These examples illustrate the complexity of his artistic language, which continues to open up new perspectives.
In addition to his work as a photographer, Gunnar is also active as a lecturer and organiser. He runs photography courses at the Eutin Adult Education Centre, where he passes on his extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for the craft. As co-initiator and first chairman of the supporting association of the photo festival Perspektiven Malente – Fototage zwischen den Seen , he promotes creative exchange and gives impulses to the regional photographic culture. With regular exhibitions, he brings his unmistakable style to a wide audience and inspires many to rediscover the fascination of nature photography.
