Berthold Walheim
Worms-based photographer Berthold Walheim, born in 1960, impresses with his enormous versatility and flair for unusual subjects. He began taking photographs at the age of eight with an Agfa Silette L under the guidance of his enthusiastic father. This early exposure to photography laid the foundation for a passion that is characterised by technical understanding, an artistic eye and a relentless thirst for discovery.

His portfolio is impressively diverse. It includes landscape and animal photography, architecture - especially lost places - as well as travelogues, people, technology and street art. He even ventures into exotic subjects such as infrared photography and light art, which underlines his love of experimentation and openness to new ideas. Berthold loves extremes: photographs of deserts, arctic regions and indigenous wilderness show the breadth of his interests. 'If you want to see something special, you have to go where others don't go' is not only his motto but also his philosophy of life.
In lost-place photography, Berthold Walheim finds stories of transience and the past, which he captures with an extraordinary sense of atmosphere. Abandoned places, once inhabited by people, become silent witnesses of time in his images. His fascination with architecture combines with his ability to capture the special charm of decay. At the same time, his travel photographs show another facet of his work: the masterful interweaving of landscape and tradition. People and their traces are not disruptive elements, but harmonious components of the landscape, conveying a sense of the vibrancy and character of the place. Berthold uses his camera to tell stories of distant regions and cultures, captivating the viewer and bringing him closer to the diversity of our world.
Berthold takes a similar approach to wildlife photography. He is not only interested in the animals, but also in their habitat. The combination of landscape and wildlife gives his images a special depth. Scenes from the animals' lives, such as hunting, mating or raising their young, captivate the viewer with their dynamism and naturalness. Berthold demonstrates patience and precision in capturing the right moment.
Berthold's work has been exhibited in his home town of Worms and beyond. Lost-place photography is at the centre of his work and has a special charm. At 10Fotos, on the other hand, the likeable photographer shows a compilation of his travel photography, with a focus on the country and its people. Again, it is unfortunate that the concept is limited to just ten images - a small selection that hardly does justice to the breadth of his impressive portfolio.
