Benjamin Höger
Benjamin Höger, born in 1979, is a landscape photographer from Waghäusel between Heidelberg and Karlsruhe with a deep connection to nature. His images capture the tranquillity of forests, the dynamics of flowing water and the majesty of mountains in a way that transports the viewer to another world. He became fascinated with photography as a child. At the age of ten he captured his first impressions with a compact camera in the neighbourhood of his parents' house, later mainly on hikes and climbing tours in South Tyrol.

Today, he finds an important balance to his work in e-commerce in the outdoors. For him, photography is not only a creative process, but also a way of capturing experiences and emotions. He is particularly fond of the nearby low mountain ranges - the Palatinate Forest, the Black Forest and the Odenwald - which he captures in atmospheric images using modern equipment. But he is also fascinated by the vastness of the Rhine Valley, where he lives, and the imposing peaks of the Alps. He finds inspiration and intimacy in their quiet majesty - almost like a second home.

The effect of depth in his photographs is remarkable, achieved through the skilful inclusion of foreground elements. In terms of colour, his work is characterised by a noble, harmonious balance, which is enhanced by the use of muted tones. This sensitivity to light and composition is evident in all the motifs, from mystical forest scenes to fascinating waterscapes. The latter can evoke calm and serenity as well as wildness and unpredictability. He alternates between wide long shots and detailed close-ups - often a challenge that requires courage and skill, as one false step or slip could sink the camera into the water.
His flair for light and composition is also evident in his macro photography. He is particularly fond of what is known as transmitted light photography: he uses targeted lighting to make mushrooms glow, creating images that look like something out of a fairy tale. Combined with long exposures in dark surroundings, these small wonders of nature have an almost magical effect.
Benjamin places great importance on a harmonious, but also artistic representation of nature. However, he rejects compositions that do not exist in reality. His aim is to immerse the viewer in the scene and create a sense of longing and wonder. For those interested, Benjamin offers guided photo tours and workshops on image processing.
