Axel Schneegaß
Axel Schneegaß is a passionate portrait and nude photographer from Leipzig, Germany, who has dedicated himself entirely to analogue photography since 2017. As a child, he experimented with a 35mm camera, inspired by his father's enthusiasm. Although Axel has also worked with digital photography, he is fascinated by the classic process - from film development to printing in the darkroom. In this decelerated work he finds not only inner peace, but also motivation and creative ideas.

A flexible and individual approach is the basis of Axel's photography. Through personal conversations about hopes and fears, he creates the basis for a trusting exchange. This empathetic approach enables him to capture moments authentically and aesthetically, always focusing on the individual character of the people portrayed. Rather than adhering to classical ideals of beauty, he focuses on the hidden stories and idiosyncrasies of people. In his often minimalist photographs, Axel deliberately uses natural light sources. Through the deliberate use of blur, controlled imperfections and a subtle interplay of light and shadow, he expresses both external and internal beauty with unadulterated emotion.
Axel's analogue photography is characterised by a high degree of technical precision and artistic sensibility. He uses classic medium format cameras such as the Pentax 67 and films such as Kodak Tri-X 400 and Ilford HP5+ to preserve the unrivalled aesthetic of traditional photography. His entire process - from shooting to film processing to final printing - results in unique, one-of-a-kind pieces where every step of the creative process is immediately tangible. Digital perfectionism takes a back seat to authentic emotion and creative expression.
In addition to his artistic work, Axel offers one-to-one workshops in which he shares his extensive knowledge of film photography, darkroom techniques and the classic printing process. His courses are aimed at those who want to go the analogue route and experience the magical moment when the developed film is transformed into a unique work of art.
Axel's work has been published in renowned magazines such as 'schwarzweiss' and the fine art magazine 'SWAN', in illustrated books such as 'black&white - a selection of contemporary photography' and in his self-published book Analogy , and has been shown in numerous exhibitions in Germany and France.
